Stroller Derby

I don’t count my steps, but if I did, I’m sure I’d reach my daily goal.

Most days it begins at around 6:30am. After changing my baby’s diaper, I put her down and start to walk over to the kitchen to make coffee.

Before I get very far, I hear the familiar sound of plastic wheels jangling against the wood floor.

I know that when I look up I’ll see my daughter waddling into the living room, pushing her baby doll in a mini baby doll stroller.

Then I’ll hear her say, “me!” which means, “you!” which means, “Mommy, get the other baby doll with the other mini baby doll stroller and follow me!”

How can I say no to her cute little punim?

And so the game ensues where she races back and forth between the living room and the kitchen, pushing her mini baby doll stroller at breakneck speed, while I follow her with a hunched over walk-run gate, pushing my mini baby doll stroller not far behind.

She glances back at me every few paces to make sure I’m still there, and I hustle along after her like a lovestruck puppy.

The game usually ends when one of us wipes out on the floor–or when she realizes that there’s something even more interesting to see in the refrigerator.

There’s always tomorrow!
